Recovery from modern varicose vein treatments is minimal. Most patients walk out of the clinic immediately after the procedure and return to normal daily activities the same day. You may be asked to wear compression stockings for a short period and avoid strenuous exercise for a few days. Most patients return to work within 24 hours.
Treated varicose veins do not return once they are closed. However, new varicose veins can develop in other locations over time due to genetics, aging, or lifestyle factors. Regular follow-up evaluations and healthy habits like staying active and wearing compression stockings when recommended can help reduce the risk of new veins forming.
Untreated varicose veins can worsen over time and lead to complications including chronic leg pain, swelling, skin discoloration near the ankles, venous ulcers, and in severe cases, blood clots.
